This album needs to get a Vinyl Reissue someday hopefully!
Throw her heart
This CD, issued on the Monster label in 2000, has the same track listing as Rockadome's 2009 edition of Hard, Heavy, Mean And Evil, including bonus tracks and running order. The cover art is different, and neither CD bears the same cover art as the original LP. The first 8 tracks are from the original release by Negative Space, and the 11 bonus tracks are from various sources and related projects, including some later solo tracks by Rob Russen that are not bad. Seems that the digital re-mastering is the same for both CD editions (both are credited to Dennis Bergeron who managed the Monster Records label before founding Rockadrome). The Monster Records CD's liner notes do not provide specific details about the bonus tracks beyond their titles, but the Rockadrome CD seems to have added source information about them. Despite the fact that 4 of the 11 bonus tracks are covers, they are all at least pretty good, and some of them excellent. The original album's 8 tracks are strong, early '70's hard rock (released in 1970) and while they are raw, they don't strike me as amateurish. In fact, the lack of heavily glossed production adds to their appeal. Not quite punk yet, but headed in that direction. Probably not as loud as Blue Cheer due to equipment limitations, but also probably less produced than even B.C.'s earlier first releases. However, there are some similarities in style and attitude that make this release by Negative Space a very pleasant surprise (even their cover of Gershwin's Summertime has some gritty guitar dynamics that make the song more listenable than I was expecting).
