I bought it when it first came out, and I must say I was very disappointed. More an introduction to some classics than an aural picture of the Roxy, it comes handy in introducing the genre for new ears. The inclusion of old, early 70s stuff doesn't help in recreating the buzz of the whole punk/Roxy/1977 London experience in the least. A real pity, for at the time of its release I was waiting for this album like never before. C'mon Don, you should and could have done it better.

What a Killer Selection ! This has some of the strongest and most archetypical Roots, Dub and DeeJay Tracks from the glorious Rockers Time in Jamaican 70ies Reggae. It includes all-time greats "Police & Thieves", "2 Sevens Clash" "Fisherman Row" , "I Need A Roof" or the early Hit by Daddy U-Roy "Wear You To The Ball Tonight", which are naturally in any Reggae collection worth it's salt and wouldn't make this such an outstanding Collection , but lift the quality standard to the highest level possible. It's the addition and mixture with less well known Tunes and especially some strong Dubs (i.e. "Upsetter Meets King Tubby Uptown" THE Most famous Dub ever) a Killer 12" DeeJay-Track by the mighty U-Brown and another typical Discomix with nearly 7 minutes playing-time . (The longer Versions on a Super Sound Single, that revolutionized Reggae and made Dub and the DeeJay-Chatting more popular ouside of Jamaican Dancehalls and transported this phenomen on recorded Vinyl). Another treatare some lesser known songs , that were probably of particular value for The Roxy Club and the crowd there. All this combined make this a great Selection. Just like The TROJAN 3LP Box selected by Don Letts nobody cares about the playing time of an LP-Side. He just puts as many trax on one side as possible (25 minutes per Side or even more) Reggae-Music can take this, since it sounds good (for fans) regardless theLoudness and pressing-quality of the Vinyl, as long as the Song and the rhythm is strong enough.
