ContentRemaining true to their origins Hell has re-recorded many of their old songs, while spicing them up a little. David Bower, standing in for the late David Halliday, does a great job. Being an actor, he takes a very theatrical approach, which works well considering Hell was always very theatrical. This is a great album. Very fast and loud, considering these guys haven't played for decades. Some of the longer songs may require a few listens before you can really appreciate them, if you are not familiar with them. I've heard people complaining about the mastering, but it sounds fantastic in my headphones and on my stereo. The second disc contains a mixture of old demos and live recordings of the same tracks as the main album. Obviously the sound is very crude. It has been re-engineered to be listenable though. Listening to it, it is really clear that the band, and especially Halliday was really ahead of their time.Packaging:Most tightly fitted box ever? It's shiny, but how the 'Hell' is one supposed to get the digipaks out without ripping the slipcase to pieces? With that out of the way. I really like this box set. The slipcase is high quality print with the Hell logo and "Human Remains" embossed. The two digipaks are very cool as well. The Human Remains-digipak has the same cover art as the slipcase, and has the same glossy finish. Booklet is very well designed with cool medieval style art. Disc is completely red with a mat finish with logo and text in a glossy reflecting finish. The clear side of the disc is tinted red as well. Under the disc tray is a picture of David Halliday. The 1982-1986 digipak is designed like to look like an old book. The booklet is filled with old posters, band pcitures and the story of the band. The disc is similarly designed except it's completely black. You can tell that a lot of care went into this project. Along with being one of my favorite recent heavy metal releases, the packaging is outstanding. Well, if you can successfully get the albums out of the bloody slipcase.
