Interesting to see copies of this going so cheap on Discogs! I wonder why? Could it be something to do with the titles? "Stringed Works" would imply orchestral, and 3 tracks have "Symphony" in the title. This is anything but classical if you ask me - in spite of someone adding Modern Classical to the style tag here on Discogs. The strings featured here are not violins, not orchestral, but are various forms of bass guitar, 4/6/8 String, Fretless, Electric, Chapman Stick, augmented by multi-voice harmonic choir, some guitar, electronics, etc., all patent early Peter Frohmader / Nekropolis of classic status. In these works I can hear influences as wide as early Amon Düül II jams, via Fripp & Eno through to the more free-form moments of Jannick Top with Magma, a field that Peter was indeed an innovator, and people like Caspar Brotzmann or Frank Fromy took it further since. But, for some reason Peter never went further down this avenue, concentrating on electronics instead.Krautrock with more atmosphere than rock, and essential!
