This has to be one of the biggest tacks ever made across any genre of dance music. The Watch Out For Stella mix is absolute perfection, right from the intro you know you are in for something very special, its just builds and builds layer upon layer, with the melodic bass-line driving the track and the perfect balance of tough piecing sounds to the haunting vocal chant. Absolute perfection, they don't come any better and bigger than this, a must for any dance music lover.
Firstly, i love this track im not knocking it any shape or form as it is a classic and must have for dj's of all sorts, but how come it is so bloody expensive? Ive come across over half a dozen copies in my time of djing/trading and its not rare atall, its plastered on hundreds of vinyl releases [the watch out for stella mix im referring to] so how can people justify selling it for £10+ i don't get it? I can only think that people want the original release for the artwork?
Super stoked I've got this in my collection now. It's all those memories of nights out with my mates, condensed into vynyl.... utter trance perfection. If you were into the scene in 92' this is the top tune of that time... no question.
The is the birth certificate of Trance. (along with Quench - Dreams).
To me, I consider the first trance track to be Red Mecca - Sura Kijame. Sounds very similar to the early work of artists such as Dance 2 Trance and the like, but predates them.
Nah, Raymond Scott with his Manhattan Research (ca. 1953) kicked off trance. This argument could go on forever of course. Trance became 'something' at different times for all of us. I can see where Age of Love would be for some. The most important name of all is missing from this little argument - Bruno Sanchioni. One of the B's in BBE. Bruno Sanchioni was one of the most important names in what we now know as Trance, and co-producer of the original Age of Love. But it's the Jam & Spoon Watch Out for Stella remix that everyone knows anyway!
In 1992, a massive trance tune made by Bruno Sanchioni (who use to release under some of the respectable New Beat alias such as Dr. Phibes, Bazz, and Chico Crew) with Guiseppe Cherchia hit the dancefloors all over Europe, and then the World. The sensual and sweet vocals saying "Come on...dance with me, move your body... Dance with me, move your body and lots of beats..." melted with the hipnotic mellow pianos made this tune a true classic, specially in the Jam & Spoon versions 'Watch Out For Stella' and 'Sign Of The Time'. A wild growing and distorted 303 bassline is at the top of the 'Watch Out For Stella' version, perhaps the most played on the underground venues at that time. A sign that something new was going on in the electronic scene.
Talking about 'Watch Out For Stella' remix, that wild growing synth does not sound like tb303.
A startling record that made me sit up and take note of harder music. This is THE perfect trance record, so pumping & hypnotic, yet so beautiful & melodic. The 'Watch Out For Stella Mix' is the one for me!
