All the records in this set (apart from "There Goes A Tenner" and "Ne T'enfuis Pas") are re-pressed. The labels mimic the designs of the original pressings but quick comparison easily reveals the differences. Unlike a lot of the original issues, there are no messages etched into the run outs. All the sleeves are reproductions of the originals but made from paper rather than the cardboard type medium of the first few singles that were originally released. Worse still, the early singles' sleeves are clearly produced from photos of the the originals; for instance, the G&L logo (Garrod and Lofthouse being the printer of the original issues) on the reverse of earlier sleeves is air-brushed out (unsuccessfully) and the shadows of the original pasted over flaps are also visible (especially evident on "The Man With The Child In His Eyes"). The artwork appears to be less 'sharp' when compared to original issues. Still, I suppose it makes this release more unique than if it contained the original records. Maybe?
Road.to sliver
Well, I guess most EMI boxes simply collected current pressings, see The Beatles Blue Box or Bush's "This Woman's Work". And don't forget that "Single's File" wasn't a pricey collectable when it came out. It was just a nice job.
